The French Ministry for Culture and Communication created the classification Villes et Pays d’Art et d’Histoire to recognize and support cities, towns, and regions of significant historical and artistic interest throughout France.

The designation “City (or Region) of Art and History” is a national label for patrimonial quality which has been awarded to fewer than 150 sites in France, with fewer than a dozen in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, and Grasse proudly counts herself among them, now sharing the limelight with renowned historic sites such as Aix-en-Provence, Rouen, Marseille, Sarlat, Reims, and Arles as one of France’s grand Cities of Art and History.

Learn about Grasse, City of Art and History…
led by a guide approved by the Ministry for Culture.

You’ll be met by the guide at a specified downtown location, and he or she, who knows every aspect of Grasse, will share with you the secrets of the history and construction of the city, including its development from neighborhood to neighborhood, as you tour the heart of the city on foot.

The Service "Ville d’Art & d’Histoire" coordinates heritage-related activities and initiatives for Grasse, plans tours, and offers year-round activities for local residents and schools. The department is at your disposal for any heritage- or history-related project ideas you may have.
